2020 Champion Award Winner

Dr. Farmer was nominated by two APSNA members Robyn Huey Lao and Karen Semkiw, current APSNA Treasurer. In the nomination letter Dr. Farmer is described as a pediatric surgical leader with a strong voice that shapes the pediatric surgical community globally and advocates for nursing, and the comprehensive care of the pediatric surgical patient. She has supported the attendance at the APSNA national conference and involvement within the organization’s leadership and encouraged abstract submissions, evidence-based care, and optimal performance in the care of children who require surgery.

Dr. Farmer values and supports the role of nursing in the care of pediatric surgical patients at UC Davis Health and throughout the APSNA organization. This is evident by her advocacy and support of the Children's Surgery Verification program administered by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Dr. Farmer advocated for lead Nurse practitioner, Robyn Huey Lao, to attend and participate in APSNA. Furthermore, she supports all NP’s to be actively involved in APSNA. Dr. Farmer has encouraged attendance and leadership opportunities within the APSNA organization structure both monetarily and with mentorship in organizational leadership roles. She has been a tremendous resource and advocate in promoting professional organizations with the role of the NP and bedside practitioners.
