Special Interest Groups
APSNA’s Special Interest Groups (SIGs) bring together members with shared professional passions to collaborate, exchange knowledge, and drive progress in pediatric surgical nursing.
SIG members play a vital role by:
- Contributing expertise to position statements, educational resources, and practice tools
- Offering input on legislation and advocacy efforts
- Serving on task forces or representing APSNA in partnerships with other organizations
Each SIG is guided by a chairperson and works under the leadership of APSNA’s Director of Practice and Quality. A new project proposal process ensures that all SIG initiatives are reviewed fairly and considered for funding.
Ready to make an impact? Join a SIG today by reaching out to the SIG chair. Your voice, experience, and ideas help shape the future of pediatric surgical nursing.

Chest Wall Anomaly Special Interest Group
The Chest Wall Anomaly Special Interest Group (SIG) is comprised of APSNA members with a common interest in the pectus population. Our Chest Wall SIG aims to develop and disseminate progressive care models for children and adolescents with pectus excavatum and pectus carinatum. Involvement with this SIG can better provide for collaboration in research for this population and together we can have the opportunity to explore innovative treatment modalities with like-minded peers.

Colorectal Special Interest Group
APSNA invites you to attend our Colorectal Special Interest Group (SIG) ZOOM meetings! Our meetings include a meet and greet with our current and new members and exchange practice ideas and issues on colorectal topics. We also like to match newer members with seasoned colorectal providers to provide mentorship in this niche practice area.

Trauma Special Interest Group
The goal of the Trauma SIG is to discuss current issues in Pediatric Trauma care. Monthly conference calls are utilized to enable expert nurses, from across the country, to share insights through active collaboration. Scholarly projects are formulated and implemented to impact trauma prevention efforts and support optimal clinical outcomes (i.e. conference offerings, publications, annual multi-center Summer Safety Event).
