Monique Jenkins, PhD, MA, FNP-BC, FNYAM

Dr. Monique Jenkins was awarded the Founders Award at the APSNA Annual Scientific Conference in Las Vegas, NV.

Monique received 4 letters of support. These letters were written by Daniel H. Our recipient's nursing journey began with her BS in nursing degree in 1995 working in General Pediatrics. She has worked in Pediatric Surgery since 2010 as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She holds her current position at Maimonides Infant and Children Hospital in Brooklyn, NY since 2012. She has been an APSNA member since 2012, serving in several board positions including Secretary, Director of Program, President from 2021-2023 and now Immediate Past President 2023-2024. She has published numerous articles throughout her career.

Dr. Jenkins has made significant contributions to our profession through her ongoing involvement in APSNA, recently serving as president. Her relentless pursuit of excellence and her eagerness to stay abreast of the latest advancements in pediatric surgical nursing have undoubtably elevated the standard of care in our field.
Dr. Jenkins’ compassion, empathy, and genuine concern for the well-being of her patients and colleagues alike has left an indelible mark on all those fortunate enough to work alongside her. Having had the privilege of working along Monique at Maimonides Children’s Hospital of Brooklyn for the past 8 years, I can attest to her exceptional dedication, leadership, and contributions to pediatric healthcare.
Monique has consistently demonstrated excellence and dedication in providing care for general pediatric surgical patients across various settings, including the outpatient clinic, NICU, pediatric general ward, PICU, and pediatric emergency room. Her commitment to patient education and family support during surgical procedures and post-operative care has significantly contributed to improved patient outcomes and satisfaction. Her involvement in performing pediatric surgery consults, bedside procedures, and care coordination highlights her versatility and leadership in the healthcare setting.

Dr. Jenkins has had multiple publications in her career, as well as expert speaking and poster presentations. She has provided her expertise by peer reviewing for many journals, from 2012 to the present. She serves as an adjunct professor, mentors and precepts new nurse practitioners, participates in nursing staff education and provides patient and family education.
She has shared her expertise, strengths, and time with APSNA for a number of years. She has maintained APSNA's vision and mission throughout her Presidency. She was able to lead the organization through a pandemic and make arguably the toughest decisions regarding conference and what was best for the organization as a whole.
