Pediatric Disaster Preparedness
This course was presented at the 27th Annual Scientific Conference held in Palm Desert, CA in 2018. Conference registrants evaluate all conference presentations, and these are tabulated accordingly. This presentation was ranked in the top 5.
This course was developed for nurses who have an interest in learning the importance of disaster preparedness for families with children with special health care needs. These children and families are more vulnerable and require additional preparations. Health care professionals must also ensure personal preparedness for their families. The content is applicable for both the bedside and advanced practice nurse.
Catherine J. Goodhue, MN, RN, CPNP-PC
Ms. Goodhue is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner with more than 30 years of pediatric nursing experience in a variety of settings. Currently she works as a PNP in the Trauma Program/Division of Pediatric Surgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Ms. Goodhue has been involved in disaster-related research for the past 10 years and has received several disaster grants. She lectures at regional, state, and national conferences on disaster preparedness. She has authored/co-authored 11 peer-reviewed disaster-related manuscripts, 2 disaster related book chapters, and 14 disaster related abstracts/posters.
The following presentation will aid the learner in their ability to:
- Define the child with special health care needs
- Describe the disaster preparations families can make for their child with special health care needs
- Discuss the components of the Emergency Information Form
