Bladder & Cloacal Exstrophy:
A 30 Year Journey of Innovation
This course was presented at the 27th Annual Scientific Conference held in Palm Desert, CA in 2018. Conference registrants evaluate all conference presentations, and these are tabulated accordingly. This presentation was ranked in the top 5.
This course focuses on presenting the advanced care of pediatric patients with cloacal and bladder exstrophy. Content addresses evaluation, management and follow up for the patient population or treatment modality discussed. The content is applicable for both the bedside and advanced practice nurse.
Ms. Rosemary Grant has had the honor of being a nurse at Children’s Hospital Boston for 37 years. Ms. Grant is a graduate of Northeastern University in Boston. Her current role is the nursing coordinator/ staff nurse III in the Department of Urology. She leads clinical operations in the outpatient setting along with an operations manager and front end supervisor. She has been involved with the Pediatric Nurse Specialist Section (PUNS) of the American Academy of Pediatrics/ Society of Pediatric Urology since 1988 as a member, chair and presenter. She has worked with the Urology Team to develop the Bladder Exstrophy Program in Urology which includes a weekly clinic, biannual family conference and a recent retreat. The support group has been in existence for 24 years. She is responsible for writing many Boston Children’s Hospital policies for Bladder, Cloacal Exstrophy protocols, catheterization and family education.
The following presentation will aid the learner in their ability to:
- Identify 3 systems involved in the Exstrophy Complex Diagnosis
- Define the procedure for management of the exstrophied bladder
- State 2 components of psychosocial support for the Exstrophy Population.
