Department of Pediatric Surgery - The University of Texas Medical School at Houston
This is an opportunity available for a Registered Nurse within the Pediatric Surgery Department in our UT Physicians clinic. This position is a 40 hour per week, Monday thru Friday day coverage position.
The Registered Nurse will be responsible for patient triage, coordinating and attending clinics, calling pharmacy for medication refills, obtaining lab results, scheduling surgeries, and arranging for nursing care. Prepares patients for and assists physicians with treatments and examinations for up to eighteen providers. Performs vitals on infants and children including weight and height using appropriate scales and measuring devises. Sets-up examining rooms, administers injections and medications as directed by physicians and maintains records. Manages, supervises, and coordinates in partnership with the clinic POA/Administrator the operations of a Pediatric Surgery clinic.
The desired candidate will have strong patient assessment and decision-making skills based on established protocols, and experience with pediatric surgery patients is essential. The ideal candidate would also possess effective communication skills, multi-tasking abilities, strong clinical judgment and multi-disciplinary collaborative skills. Bilingual Spanish abilities strongly preferred.
Staff Nurse II - Bachelor degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school with a minimum of one year of nursing experience; OR, Associate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school with a minimum of three years of nursing experience; OR, Nursing diploma (3 year program) with a minimum of two years nursing experience; Current State of Texas Registered Nurse licensure; CPR certified.
Staff Nurse III - Bachelor degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school with a minimum of two years of nursing experience; OR, Associate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school with a minimum of four years of nursing experience; OR, Nursing diploma (3 year program) with a minimum of three years nursing experience; Current State of Texas Registered Nurse licensure; CPR certified.

This position coordinates and supports the needs of outpatient clinical operations for the Division of Pediatric Surgery. The NP provides direct advanced practice nursing care for patients. The OHSU Pediatric Nurse Practitioner serves as key communication link between the referring providers, patient, his/her family, and the care team.
