Past or present experiences and responsibilities that contribute to your qualifications for the office sought
I have been caring for surgical neonates throughout the duration of my ongoing 17-year nursing career. In addition to my nursing experience with surgical infants, my leadership experience comes from local nursing organizations, precepting new NPs, serving as a unit resource for surgical care, and as an instructor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. To that end, I am proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite as well as familiar with several web-based platforms including eCollege, Canvas, and Blackboard. I am familiar with these platforms on both the front and back end as both a student-user and instructor.
Summary of your goals for the position
I am honored and excited at the prospect of serving the membership of APSNA on the Board as well as upholding the mission and vision of the organization. As Information Systems Chair I will ensure our website is the most up to date, user-friendly, and comprehensive resource for nurses caring for pediatric surgical patients and serves as their number one, go to resource. Working closely with the Publications Chair, I will be sure we are attracting evidence-base, up-to-date articles for our members. With the Program chair I will ensure our Conference is well advertised and promoted on the website to be sure it is well attended. Working with the Membership Chair, I will ensure our website always attracts new members to grow and strengthen our membership. I would also like to establish two new sections on the homepage including a “product spotlight of the month” section and a section for concerns, issues and current trends as they relate to clinical practice, competency, legislation, and advocacy to name a few.
