APSNA is proud to announce the opening of the elections for the
2011 Board of Directors with the following candidates.

 

Members of APSNA have nominated these highly qualified candidates to fill the available seats on our Board of Directors. The candidates represent the evolving membership in APSNA, with greater representation from around the country. APSNA is a young organization that in a short time has grown tremendously in scope, membership, and professionalism. It is a pleasure to see a diverse pool of qualified candidates that reflects that growth.

 

The candidates deserve your thoughtful consideration and your vote. Please take the time to be involved in the selection of your APSNA leadership through your informed vote.

Ellen A. O’Donnell RN, MSN, CPNP:
Candidate: President Elect

    Children's Hospital Boston- Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Surgical Programs.

  • Major areas of responsibility:
    Working in collaboration w/ 19 surgeons in busy outpatient clinic, triaging phone calls, accountable for all pre-op evaluations, history, physicals and assessments of complex surgical patients, mentoring new NPs, interns & residents, precepting NP students.

    Program Chair APSNA 2006-2008-reconized leader within the hospital, local community and nationally. Tri-Chair of Nurse Practitioner Conference in conjunction with local NAPNAP chapter and Children's Hospital Boston to be held in October 2010.

  • Summary of your goals for the position:
    To carry on the work and endeavors of previous APSNA leaders in striving to make APSNA the distinguished and recognized organization it is.
    Continue the collaboration with APSA to enhance our roles as nurses and nurse practitioners. To address ways we can work in partnership to identify and utilized our combined efforts to have the best possible care and outcomes to our patients and families with surgical needs.
    I look forward to representing such a wonderful, caring, diverse, and extremely knowledgeable group of nurses and nurse practitioners within APSNA.



 




Lizabeth (Beth) Wallace, RN, MS, CPNP, PC/AC:

Barbara G. Mariscal, MSN, RN, PNP:
Candidate: Treasurer

    San Antonio Pediatric Surgery Associates, San Antonio, TX-PNP

  • Major areas of responsibility:
    Perform daily rounds at Methodist Children’s Hospital for ongoing inpatient care, patient discharges, preoperative teaching, interact/liaison with other pediatric specialists, nursing, nutrition, rehab, child life, discharge planning to facilitate patient care
    In afternoon have office hours at our private office for patient follow up/new patient consults with surgeons, all gastrostomy care and bowel programs
    Answer all patient calls for 5 pediatric surgeons (who cover total of 5 hospitals)
    Participate in QI and research related to our practice.

    Served as APSNA interim treasure 2001 and was elected as APSNA treasurer for 2002-2004.

    Keep organized and complete financial records
    Participate in the investment of APSNA monies to provide financial support of ongoing and new projects
    Develop, monitor and maintain a financially sound budget
    Collaborate with Board/Committee Chairs to account for all financial transactions

Candidate: Development Chair

    Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner: Rounds, 2nd Assist in the operating room, perform minor procedures, see pediatric surgical patients in the clinic

    One year term as Development Chair with APSNA, Currently serving as Development Chair for APSNA, work with local committee of our local hospital pediatric conference

  • Summary of your goals for the position:
    Bring new and innovative ideas to the Development Chair, bring new vendors to APSNA, work with board members to promote success and work with members of APSNA to promote "best-practice” pediatric surgical nursing care both nationally and internationally






 

Rosaline Michelle Darty, MSN, APRN, CPNP:
Candidate: Development Chair

  • Place of current employment and job title:
    Sutton Children’s Medical Center at Christus Schumpert in Shreveport, Louisiana. Pediatric Surgical Nurse Practitioner for Pediatric Surgical Associates.

  • Major areas of responsibility:
    My current clinical duties include using a framework for practice that incorporates both scientific and theoretical bases. I provide professional services within the scope of practice according to the Louisiana State Board of Nursing. Such care will include, but not limited to, the following functions:
    > Patient Management (Inpatient and Outpatient pediatric surgery patients)
    > Health history, physical examination, admit and discharge patients
    > Consultant (Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team)
    > Family Care (education and communication)

    I served as the Maternal-Child Clinical Instructor at a level One Trauma Center, where my job duties included, but not limited to, planning conferences, obtaining vendors, and completing publications.

  • Summary of your goals for the position:

    > Serve as a member of the Board of Directors to help promote APSNA and support the President of the Organization.
    > Participate in planning annual scientific meetings as both a labor of love as well as a business venture for APSNA.
    > Work hard to solicit vendors that will foster the growth of the members of APSNA.
    > Collaborate with other members of the board to ensure that my role as Development Chair is fulfilled.
    > Serve as a mentor to the members of APSNA.
    > Research and publish in Sutureline and other publications to assist in increasing the knowledge base of my peers.






 

Kimberly Haus Mciltrot, DNP, CPNP, CWOCN:
Candidate: Publications Chair

    My role is quite diverse, challenging and never boring! I have outpatient clinical responsibilities (including satellite clinics) for General Pediatric Surgery. In addition, I have consults for inpatient surgical issues, wound ostomy continence patients and biofeedback clinic.

    I have been a member of APSNA since 1998 and recently completed my DNP. I know how difficult the publishing process can potentially be. We have extremely talented members and I would like to help encourage them to publish; if they are already experienced authors, to continue to contribute and spread their invaluable skills and knowledge. I have had the privilege of seeing the improvement in the APSNA publications including Sutureline. I would like to continue the impressive job that the past chair members have done and work to improve and increase the readership of Sutureline. If elected I promise to do my best to continue the success of APSNA.

    Be a productive member of the board
    Increase readership of Sutureline
    Have fun working with APSNA members and encourage them to publish!

    > Consult for wound/ostomy/continence needs for the Children’s center

    > Consult to sub-acute hospitals for surgical consults

    Pediatric Surgery nursing is exciting and ever changing. I enjoy and look forward to new and exciting challenges that pediatric surgery has to offer. I am honored to be nominated and hopefully will have the opportunity to serve the APSNA board in the role of Information Systems Chair. I have been an active member of APSNA since 2001. I have always supported the organization in its growth. Should I win election, I will work diligently to increase communication between the board and APSNA members.

    Increase communication for the ASPNA organization
    > Directly work with the web master to communicate needs of the APSNA organization and maintain the website
    > Maintain listserves in cooperation with web master from Triad
    > Support the APSNA board members
    > Maintain communication with all board members and keep them abreast of new information
    > Promote availability to new and current members by phone /email

    > Member of APSNA IS Committee for two years.
    > Responsible for APSNA email blasts.
